And maybe a way of calling out any engineers who might want (more) satisfaction of designing something like this. Worst case, I gut a craigslist/eBay find 400/800 RB for its power section.Īs usual around here, thoughts, comments, and tomatoes are welcome!Ĭlick to expand.I hear you loud an clear! There are certain things out there that I don't want another "redo" of either (not going there)! I'd personally LOVE to get some sort of design up and running, even if only for my own use.īest case- I start from the ground up (chassis, PCB layout, etc.). I'm not really down with the recent offerings for power amps out there- lots of Hi-Fi and not much character.

on the other hand, the schematics for these amps look VERY similar to a few older Hi-Fi-based Class A/B amps. technology that they patented, I would like to think that there is at the very least some sort of market out there for a power amp that reacts/interfaces with the speakers much in the same way the older G-k stuff did. While I'm sure that while we can't just take the G.I.V.E. Indeed, part of the sound of those amps was being that they were pushed "to the rails" (as G-K themselves have said), aside from the boost control. With regards to those of us that that have found happiness with our preamps/effects/pedal boards/etc., has anyone investigated or tried to build up just the power amplifier section similar to that of either a G-K 400rb or 800rb?Ģ00 to 300 Watt range would be my ideal, with the sonic traits being much in the same way as the 400/800RB amps.įor any For any competent engineer/designer, it shouldn't be that hard to take the schematics already out there and sub in newer Q-values for those transistors that are no longer in production.

Yeah, I know it's only a dB or so less than a full-on SVT, and a dB or so more than a V4B, but since we don't play according to the "rules" of amplifier power ratings and like to "push things" a little at times (especially with tube amps!), YMMV. One of the ideas proposed was a 200 Watt SVT-like amplifier head. I followed this with great interest, as I know of a few things that I'd LOVE to see hit the market (or at the very least, be a custom/DIY project for self). Recently, another thread asked about what they would like to see in a new product, with a "vote for" attached.
